COMMUNITY

Serving the community of Salfords and Sidlow.

Salfords and Sidlow is really made up of two communities.

Salfords has the A23 running through it, and has local shops, Industrial Estates, businesses, a primary school and many community groups, whilst across the A217 we have Sidlow which is far more rural with a lot of farm land and country lanes!

The Parish Council has links with most of our community groups in both villages.

We offer community funding to groups and individuals to support appropriate activities and causes which are likely to benefit Salfords and Sidlow as a whole, or a significant number or group of persons residing within the Parish. We have funds which are to be used for the benefit of the community.

Autumn Litter Pick Event
20 May, 2024
The Parish Council is celebrating being in existence for 50 years this year. We have lots of exciting plans to mark this special occasion. We held a celebration fun day jointly with Salfords Social Club on Saturday 29 June. There was performances from live band 'Something Like That', BBQ, Ice cream van, candy floss stall, entertainment for all the family including fairground attractions, bouncy castle, Tug of War, China Smash, Safecracker, Tombola run by Christ the King church, Hit the hammer, and several craft stalls. All our local community groups joined in and showcased what they have to offer or ran a stall. We hosted another event in Sidlow on Sunday 30 June where families were entertained with live bands, BBQ and licensed bar, children games and the obligatory Tug of War. Thanks to all our residents and families who attended. The Parish Council has donated and planted 5 Himalayan Birch Betula Utilis Jacquemontiie trees to Salfords Social club as part of our 50th year. We have also gifted a happy to chat bench to the club. Cllr Caroline Clarke and Claire, the Clerk, attended Salfords Primary School where we provided the school with environmental gifts including bird boxes, bat boxes, bug hotels, hedgehog houses and hedgehog gateways. All the pupils received Rubix cube style gifts as the game was created in 1974. We also provided the school with a Buddy Bench which is currently in their infant area. We will be burying a time capsule so will be asking our community groups and some residents if they would like to donate something to be included to mark where we are in 2024 for someone to find in the future. We held a scarecrow competition and awarded environment gifts to the entrants. We will be gifting roads that have verges with bags of daffodil bulbs so residents can plant them in the Autumn. This would help brighten up our villages and help the local environment and biodiversity. If you would like your road to be included please get in touch
